1주일 차 에세이

Some prefer to travel with everything they need in their bags. However, I prefer to travel light rather than to travel heavy. There are two main reasons why I prefer it.

First, I can move around at leisure with light baggage. If I carry heavy bags, it will bother me everytime I try to enjoy activities.

In addition, since my baggage is light and has a lot of space, I can buy things if I feel like it. I can also bring back some souvenirs for my friends or family.

In conclusion, people have their own ways to travel. Some travel light and others don't. I myself like to travel light better than to travel with heavy baggage. It is because I can go around leisurely and there would be enough room in the bag for the goods I buy.

The reading explains the various potential positive effects of Genetic Modification technology, while the lecture claims that there are harmful effects of GM technology. Both the reading and the lecture suggested three opinions to support their claims.

According to the reading, GM technology is a boon for our health. They say that the scientists can remove the genes that cause human food allergies. Therefore, millions of people could enjoy any healthy products safely. However, the lecturer contradicts the readings claim. The lecturer says that GM technology could put humans at risk of food allergies. They presented an example of the Brazil nut genes in GM soybeans incident.

In addition, the reading elaborates that GM also helps the environment by reducing the use of damaging chemicals in agriculture. With the BT genes, harmful insects can be killed due to the poison inside of it. On the other hand, the lecturer contends that the GM technology instead harms the environment by killing the helpful insects. The basis for their claim was the Monarch butterflies, which died because of BT bacteria inserted into GM crops.

Finally, the reading states that GM technology may help us meet the food needs of our rising global population. In the future, the population will increase so much that there won't be enough food for us to eat. However, by GM technology, the agricultural efficiency and output will rise so there will be no problem. Although, the lecturer argues that GM could give a few huge companies a monopoly on global food production. They will be able to control the the food prices because most of the food will come from their companies.
